Vi Bell paints landscapes and their aftermath, tracking how nature and human experience recover from disruption. Her practice sits at the meeting point of organic abstraction and observed landscape, treating both as evidence of the same underlying process: loss followed by recovery, breakdown followed by new form. Fire, soil, and terrain become case studies in a wider question she carries into human experience as much as ecological ones, how systems, living or lived, absorb disruption and reorganise around it.
Her studio work draws on research into regeneration at a cellular and geological scale, the unseen negotiations that let a scorched landscape become habitat again. Her plein air and landscape painting grounds this inquiry in direct, present-tense observation, holding the philosophical alongside the immediate. Across both, the work resists a single fixed state. Nothing in it is only decaying or only recovering. It holds both at once, the way memory, land, and identity often do.
